Like the situation that existed almost Ninety years ago, the harbour and associated assets are currently in need of significant repairs once again. The Trustees are restricted in what they can generate in the way of revenue from the fishermen – the salmon fishery – slipping fees – berthing – fund raising – donations etc. and the sums of money from these activities fall very far short of what is now needed in financial terms, to prevent this asset soon becoming a pile of boulders. A four-phase plan has been prepared for the re-development of the Harbour and local environs. There has to date been the most positive and generous support for this re-development plan. Significant endeavours are now under-way with new Trustees to raise the necessary funds, to proceed at an early date with the re-development of the harbour and surrounding area. Please keep in touch with our website for news on the re-development plan’s progress and our Fund Raising Campaign. © Port Erroll Harbour Trustees 2012 (all rights reserved)

Significant endeavours are now under-way with new Trustees to raise the necessary funds, to proceed at an early date with the re-development of the harbour and surrounding area. Four phase development of the harbour and surrounding area. Phase 1 is the priority phase for the harbour defences involving immediate works (re-engineering, new defences). Phase 2 - more permanent repair options, civil and marine engineering (vessels -new access and egress, new moorings, new steps, new safety sign-age, new parking area including dedicated disabled facilities). Phase 3 - new building incorporating Tourist Information,Heritage Centre, Harbour Office, Community Training and Meeting Room, Cafeteria and Observation Deck, new storage areas and small workshops. Phase 4 - improved slipways and harbour lighting, improved launch and recovery facilities. Charitable Status. We are in the process of moving forward from the current Trust position to one of being a Charity. Legal advisers are taking us through the necessary steps on how we might achieve this legal position. This does not come cheap nor can it be done overnight, it is more money out of the pot that we can ill afford. We are, however, trying to have the legal fees for this work financially sponsored. This significant change has to be done in a manner and style, such that those who are noted in the Trust Disposition as having certain rights in perpetuity would continue to enjoy these rights when the estate moves to a Charitable Organisation. That sounds relatively easy - it is not. The Charity, if it is able to be formed - will rightly so - come under the scrutiny and requirements of Scottish Charitable Organisation Regulator. Legal advice has also been sought on how we a shape the new Charitable Organisation. The legal papers have gone from our Solicitors in Aberdeen to Senior Counsel in Edinburgh for production in the Court of Session in Edinburgh hopefully to bring about the desired change. Being a Charity assists many potential gifting Organisations meet their Corporate Responsibility Policies and Community Based Support Programmes. It is also Tax efficient for such organisations to give to Charities.
